New To Home Decorating? Learn How To Create Your Design Blueprint – Part 2
If you lack professional education when it comes to interior design and home decorating courses, let go of your fears of being unable to decorate your home on your own. Everybody can start from scratch and create a wonderful home project based on who the individual really is and how they express themselves.
Home decorating and improvement is not about designing your house to match someone else's standards, rather, it's about expressing who you are deep inside and not being afraid to let that beauty out so that you can use it as fuel to create the house of your dreams.
In order to successfully determine where you should start and in what direction you want your own designs to go into, you need to write out a blueprint which will help define yourself as well as your tastes.
Time To Define Your Room Preferences
In our first part of this series, you were instructed to answer some questions which would give you a basic idea of some personal choices you have about yourself. In today's article we are going to give you some questions that will help you assess what rooms of the house you use most often, and why you use these rooms.
1. What room of the house do you occupy most of the time? Is it your kitchen, living room, or bedroom? Perhaps it is your study? What is it about that room that makes you enjoy spending the majority of your time there? How do you feel? And more importantly, consider how you can make this same feeling come about from all of the rooms of your house.
2. When you have friends or relatives over to visit, what room of the house do you usually host these guests in? What type of atmosphere do you strive for when your friends come over? Do you have any particular furniture or design changes that you like to make at the last minute before the guests arrive? What is it about these changes that makes you happy and confident in knowing your guests will enjoy themselves?
3. When you eat your meals, which room of the house do you prefer to enjoy your food in? Do you gather around the dinner table most of the time or do you prefer to eat in front of the television and enjoy visual entertainment? When it comes to cooking, is ordering "to go" your favorite option or do you enjoy cooking most of your meals at home?
4. Do you have any children in the house, and if not, are you planning on having any kids in the near future? If you do have kids, where do you prefer they spend most of their playtime when inside? Are there certain rooms that you do not allow the children to enter? If so, then what is it about those rooms that you feel should be off-limits? Are these rooms set up the way you would enjoy the rest of your house to look like if you did not have children?
5. Take pets into consideration as well. If you have a cat or a dog then are there certain areas of the house in which they are forbidden to play in? Where do you have them sleep? Do you wish that you had more decorative displays which are pretty, yet designed for your animals, like a specific colored doghouse or an exotic looking scratching post for the cat?
