Home Decorating Tips - Getting The Right Texture For Each Room Of The House

Success with home decorating is profoundly impacted by getting the right textures of your room blended in perfect harmony with the rest of the atmosphere. Each room will have its own design and there are different textures that you can work with for each section of that room.

Wall Texture

Let's start with the walls. Whenever you walk into a room there is always a certain "feel" that comes with it. This helps create a specific experience you want you and your guests to feel when they enter. For example, eating a hot meal inside a room that has dark wooded panels covering the walls will feel completely different than eating that same hot meal in a room that is painted with off-white, mixed with a touch of peach color.

With wall texture, it's all about creating whatever "mood" you wish to invoke upon people. Imagine your living room surrounded entirely by brick. How would that make you feel? Now consider the same room that is textured with vinyl imitations, fabrics, or even a glossy coat of paint. What impact would that have on your overall sense of emotion?

The Windows

Dressing up your windows is another great way to bring texture to any room of the house. Consider adding metal blinds which will provide a cool and solid appearance to a room. However, perhaps you would enjoy having less sunlight reflected by going with fabric blinds, which comes along with a soft and neat design. Some people prefer the look of hanging folds made from heavy and luxurious rich draperies, such as velvet and tapestry.

The Floors

The floors of each room can definitely bring a very interesting look and feel to area with the right textures. Because some rooms are specifically geared for certain functions, such as the kitchen and bathroom, it is necessary to consider a texture that matches the overall theme. Area rugs would benefit the room by adding a touch of pattern with textures that help induce a cozy and warm area. On the other hand, kitchens and bathrooms may be more suited with light colored tile, stone, or marble.

But these options can be changed depending on your preferences. Would you like to have carpet running to your bathroom? No problem. Would you prefer to have your living room less cozy by having tile laid down? Go for it. Home decorating is a personal expression, your way of expressing who you are inside.
