External shading devices for keeping the house cool
To prevent the scorching heats and to beat the blazing sun of summers most if us love to seek shelter of our cozy houses. However, it becomes very difficult to keep the indoor cool when the outdoors is hot. Still there are various ways with help of which the indoor can be kept cool. One such method is using external shading devices, which include awnings, louvers, and shutters, rolling shutters and shades and solar screens.

Awnings are one the most popular and effective external shading devices used for keeping the interior of the house cool. Normally they are made from fabric or metal and are attached above the window, extended down and out. Awnings if installed properly can successfully reduce heat gain up to 65% on the southern windows and 77% on the eastern windows. Most owners prefer light colored awnings as they also help in reflecting sunlight.
2. Louvers
louvers are attractive external shading devices. They are extremely versatile and are equipped with adjustable slats that control the level of sunlight entering the home. Louvers are available in various designs and can be easily adjusted from inside and outside of the house. Louvers are available with both vertical and horizontal slats, and remain fixed and are attached to the exteriors of the window frames.
3. Shutters
Shutters refer to movable coverings, which are normally made in wood or metal. They are available in both styles solid and with slats. Shutters besides reducing heat also provide with privacy and security.
4. Solar Screens
Solar screens is one the most popular external shading device. Solar screens are similar to standard window screens. Though not actually a shading device it cuts considerable amount of sunlight and heat from coming into the house. Solar screens effectively keep direct sunlight from entering the window, cut glare and block light without blocking the view.
Along with these most interior designers also suggest to use draperies and curtains, Venetian blinds, cellular shades and opaque roller shades to keep the heat and sunlight away from the house thus keeping the house cool through out the summers.
