Particleboard and hardboard cabinets have hardwood or plastic veneers, which can be difficult to repair if scratched and screws driven into the particleboard do not hold well while hinges can come loose. For these reasons, it is advisable to invest in hardwood, which though expensive, is the best choice for doors, frames and sides; holding up against abuse and affording easy repair.
