George Lathem and his son Louie Sr. founded Lathem in the year 1919. They began by selling time recorders and watchman patrol clocks to the factories. Today they have grown to a position where the small and big companies have depended on their time clocks, time recorders, time stamps and so on. Some of the products manufactured by Lathem apart from mechanical and electronic time clocks are wall clocks, signal devices, timecards, touch stations and employee management software. Lathem products have become so much of part of life that people use it without even realizing it.

Lathem produced both digital and analog clocks. The analog clocks can be placed anywhere on the wall. They come in the round and square shape or size varying from 10 inch to 15 inch. The standard size is the 12-inch round case. To prevent tampering the stem sets are mounted behind the case top and the fine brass movements provide silent and trouble free operation. Digital clocks can be used as a stand-alone system and the four-digit display is visible even from 100 feet. The nine volt alkaline battery provides continuous time keeping even during power failure so as to display the correct time when power resumes. These features make these clocks reliable and perfect for any business environment.

Lathem Payclock

Pay clocks are automated time and attendance devices. They are used to calculate the total hours of work including the overtime put in by each employee. This system has a badge reader terminal and Windows operating system based time and attendance software. The badges have to be punched in and out by the employees. The payroll data can be later printed to reports. The pay clock system enables one to run the business efficiently and effectively. The Payclock systems are designed for both big and small organisations. The Payclock series are Payclock, PayclockPRO400 and PayclockPRO3500 series.

Lathem 4000 Series Automatic Clock

This clock is used in organisations that have a large number of staff members. This clock has metal casing and key lock so it can withstand harsh environment. Lathem 4000 series can be safely mounted on the wall or tabletop. It has a large analog clock the display of which can be seen from far. The ribbon self- reverses at the end of the spool and can be changed easily. All standard time cards work with it. It helps to track employee time for payroll and task time for accurate job costing. Lathem 4000 series is also used a Digital Work Alerter.

Wall clocks can be stylish and add colour and complement the dcor of the room. Responding to changes in the market preferences towards decorative, brighter, vibrant dcor companies have unveiled new style and collection of clocks called retro clocks. These clocks are available in handcrafted wood styles, metal, acrylic, silver. These clocks are available in cartoon characters for children's rooms, kitchen themes and so on. The retro clocks are made to renovate the traditional clocks in new designs and styles. Past and present are fused in the retro clocks

Retro era:

Clocks are wall jewels and it gives style to the room. If the style of the clock is a mixture of past and the present with a mixture a distinction of old fashion and contemporary style it is said to belong to retro era. The clocks in the retro era during 1920's were known as art deco style and in 1950's as 'diner' or 'jukebox' style. Whereas in the early eighties it retro clocks were known as minimalist style. Some clocks and timepieces of the retro era feature ads or logos in th4e clock face.

Retro Astro Wall clocks

In 1950's George Nelson designed brightly colored series of clocks known as retro astro wall clocks. The Astro clocks were designed to look like the molecular structure of an atom. George Nelson designed this during the post World War II. This astro design blends with any interior decorum of the home and office alike. The retro astro wall clocks are made of high-density plastics and the quartz movement powered by batteries.

Double Bubble clocks:

In the 1950's and 1960's Advertising Products Company of Cincinnati introduced the stylish clocks called double bubble clocks. These clocks carried graphics or logos on the clock face. They became so popular, today; many collectors of 50's memorabilia restrict their collection of clocks to Double Bubbles. The dial moves over the inner glass bubble and has either a logo or graphics and the outer "crystal "or glass bubble has the numericals of the clock. These globes are luminated with low voltage bulbs. Recently, these clocks are being redone using thee original licensed artwork from Wayne's clocks.

Midwest clocks:

Midwest is another producer of retro clocks. Recently they have come out with a new line of designs and accessories for the retro-look market. Their popular styling and design series is "Someone's in the kitchen". The clocks of these series are available in festive colors that recall the family tradition and culture. The Cookie Time, Cookie Jar is some of the collections of Midwest clocks. They are designed on kitchen magnet or ceramic ornament .the retro clocks add color, style and tone the home

Introduction:

Clocks are put in our living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms. But there is one more kind of place where clocks are put:-our bathrooms. We have a special type of clock in our bathrooms called the shower clock. An elegant shower clock could jazz up the unappealing bathroom.

A variety of shower clocks are available in sleek and attractive models. They are generally battery
Powered and transform the bathroom with their looks and a host of different functions.

Multiple features and uses:

One need not worry if you are getting late for an appointment. Instead of estimating the elapsed time by racking our heads one can just look the time up in the shower clock. These clocks can be mounted on the bathroom walls or on the shower rods. The clock can have a radio and you can enjoy listening to various radio programs while taking a shower. One can tune in both AM and FM. You can check for traffic on your daily route. One can have a mirror in the shower clock and one can shave one's face using the mirror. It is quite likely that you may get an important telephone call while bathing. Certain shower clocks display the ID's of the callers along with the time of the calls. The clock can display the temperature in the bathroom. You could also set the alarm in the clock. One of the latest features available in the shower clock is the spy camera. Some of the clocks also play CD's. Since the bathroom is likely to be damp the clock should be able to be gripped without problems. Also it should be lightweight for portability. The majority of shower clocks are wireless.

Different Types:

Shower clocks come in a hue of colors and one can choose the color which complements the bathroom's ambience. One can get shower clocks in various shapes for instance shapes of different animals. Shower clocks should be water resistant considering the damp environment in which they exist. Most of the clocks are small and light and hence can be easily mobile.

Pricing:

Though there is a variety of models to choose and a range of prices one could acquire a good piece for 50 US$ to 100US$

A clock is generally taken to mean a device to show the time of day or night. However, a clocking device may be any instrument that registers a given condition such as the temperature of a place or clocking the revolutions per minute of a machine.

The usual form of a clock is a round gauge, with one or more needle indicators. The idea of a round gage is useful because many people can tell with experience the reading of the gauge just by looking at the positions of the needles on the gauge. A slight glance will do. People still prefer analog speedometer in their cars. The needles of such instruments make a kind of sign during operation, allowing the user to recognize at a glance, from the motion of the needle as well as its angle, if something is wrong with the system being monitored. Especially with experience, the effort required to get an overall picture from an analog gauge is usually less than that needed to interpret and understand a digital readout.

Various Airplane Clocks

An airplane has a number of clocks, if they may be called that. The Vertical Speed Indicator in an airplane shows how fast the aircraft is climbing. The traditional form of this instrument is a round gauge with a single needle. Its zero position in the middle left. When the aircraft is climbing, the needle moves clockwise, above the zero point. In a dive, the needle rotates counterclockwise, below the zero point.

An altimeter gauge shows the aircraft's height above sea level. Multiple needles indicate altitude rather like an analog clock indicates time the typical altimeter greatly resembles a clock at first glance. An altimeter-style gauge is very helpful in displaying a single quantity, which must be monitored at several different scale levels.

A plane annunciator can be used to indicate an emergency or error condition. Flashing lights alarms, voice prompts and various combinations of the three can be used to indicate such events. Annunciators are a very useful source of supplemental information in a user interface.

Perhaps the most important form of a clock in an airplane is the gyro. This constantly clocks the speed and the direction of the aircraft very accurately.

There are mainly three types of atomic clocks. They are cesium, hydrogen and rubidium. The principle behind all the three remains the same. Rubidium atomic clocks are the simplest and most compact of all. The rubidium clock uses the transition of the rubidium-87 atom between two hyperfine energy states. When the atoms returns to the original state the frequency of the period of the wave can be used to measure time. Rubidium clocks are not as stable or accurate as other atomic clocks. However they are compact and less expensive.

Rubidium element:

Robert Bunsen and Gustav Kirchhoff discovered rubidium in the year 1861. Till 1920s this element had minimal industrial use. However the most important use of rubidium is in research and development primarily in chemical and electronic applications. Rubidium is a chemical element in the period table that has the symbol Rb and atomic number 37.Rubidium is a soft, silvery-white metallic element of the alkali metal groups. It is one of the most electropositive elements and it is ignites spontaneously in air and reacts violently with water.

Temex Time:

Timex Time is a leading global supplier of low-cost Rubidium clock and GPS- synchronized timing solutions. In 2005 they introduced plug and play Rubidium timing designer kit for system designer. Temex Time has also announced a low-cost Rubidium oscillator, the LCR-900 that creates an affordable solution for mid-end positioning test and communications applications.

Rubisource T& M- Portable Rubidium Timing Signal Reference:

This is a portable timing reference based on rubidium oscillator technology for use in test and measurement applications. The output signal provides exact timing information based on the highly accurate and stable rubidium oscillator inside. The rubidium fast warm-up eliminates the need for bulky backup batteries.

Rubisource2000:

Rubisource is a low-cost portable timing reference based on rubidium clock technology. Rubidium clock provides highly accurate, stable and reliable output. Rubisource 2000 is designed for telecom and metrology test and measurement applications. It is also a reference source used to enable fast measurement and testing of the synchronization quality of PDH/SDH/SONET Digital networks. Coupled with the optional GPS FC, the range of observation time can be largely extended to meet specific requirements.

Ansonia clocks derived their name from the company that manufactured them. The Ansonia Company was famous for its ornamental imitation gold and decorative novelty clocks. Ethereal cupids and angels, deep thinkers, athletes, infants and leisurely ladies adorning the elegant clock designs are some of the defining characteristics that set Ansonia clocks apart.

Brief history of Ansonia clocks

The founder of the company was called Anson Phelps and it was located in Derby, Connecticut. Anson started off as an importer of tin, brass and copper to the Eastern section of the states where he already owned a copper mill and therefore, had substantial financial backing and business contacts. This encouraged him to establish The Ansonia Clock Company in 1851 and the two start firm names used were Ansonia Clock Co. and Ansonia Brass & Clock Co. both marked 'Ansonia, Conn.' Forceful sales endorsement methods and a strategy based on making and selling more clocks resulting in more brass being used, brought immediate success. With success came an enhanced reputation for the Ansonia clocks being synonymous with quality timepieces; the company being appreciated as manufacturers and dealers of every style and variety- as an outlet in 43 Hanover Street, Boston preferred to call them.

Range and scope of Ansonia clocks

The Ansonia clock range proved to be extremely saleable and the business did well till 1859 when the clock and brass companies separated. The financial year of 1873 was a bit tough but this is when the clock company was incorporated. The principal clock type around this period was the spring wound shelf clock, designed in myriad patterns. Extending the range were the regulator wall clocks with all cases made of wood, chiefly mahogany, rosewood or other veneer. The Ansonia Brass & Battery Co. tag was also used on some wood and iron covered marine 8 day and 30 hour clocks.

Development of Ansonia clocks

The company gained a factory in Brooklyn, New York and transferred the entire operation there but a fire struck in the first year of operation in 1879, destroying the factory. Showing impressive resilience, the Ansonia clock plant was immediately rebuilt and production in full swing by 1880. The company continued to taste success until production ceased in the Brooklyn plant in about 1930 when Russian interests bought over the machinery and shipped it to Russia.

The wooden clocks add beauty and elegance to the room. They blend and complement with other artifacts and furniture of the room. Wooden clocks come in varying designs and styles. Looking into the history of timekeeping in 1656 Dutch astronomer Christian Huygens devised a successful pendulum clock. He used short pendulum that beat several times a second and the whole works was encased in wood. Though this was an improvement on earlier mechanical clocks, it did have minute error of less than one minute a day. In 1670 an English clockmaker William Clement made use of a pendulum about a yard long that took a full second to move back and forth. He encased the pendulum in a wooden case to diminish the effects of air currents. This gave rise to Longcase clocks and pendulum. Again in the year 1721 George Graham improved the pendulum's accuracy by compensating for changes in the pendulum's length caused by temperature variations.

Again in the year 1721 George Graham improved the pendulum's accuracy by compensating for changes in the pendulum's length caused by temperature variations.

Railway house clock:

The basic form of the clock is rectangle or square piece on which an isosceles triangle is placed. The house-faced basic form with wooden decorative elements was developed to include scenes from daily life. The face of this wooden with white numbers and hands and fir cone shaped weights. Dancing couples in traditional clothes move to music or the mill wheel rotates on the hour, while a farmer chops wood. The cuckoo itself moves its wings and beak and rocks back and forth when calling. This is the oldest cuckoo clock from the black forest.

Puzzle Clock – A wooden beauty:

Puzzle Clock is made of Russian five-ply of Baltic Birch. The wood is laser cut. The pendulum of Puzzle Clock dates back to 300 years. The clock operates using the method" verge and foliot". The top horizontal bar moves left and then right, is suspended by a thin cord. The pallet engages the escape wheel while the bar turns back and forth and the escape gear is turned in one-second intervals. The earlier versions had only an hour hand and were not very accurate. Later on the a Canadian clock maker named Joe Monincx made it extremely accurate by adding two escape wheels.

Digital wooden clocks:

The latest wooden digital clock appears to be a block of wood. This wooden clock has numerals that mysteriously appear on its surface, as if they were being projected. It works with a thin layer of wood over the numerals, so they can shine through. Until those numbers appear, it looks exactly like a Scandinavian-designed, well-sanded 10-inch-long block of teakwood. There are no buttons to be seen, no controls in sight-the time and alarm-set buttons are all hidden around back.
The antique clocks had wooden cases that were intricately carved and designed according to the style of the concerned period. Today manufacturers are trying their best to replicate the designs. Though they have succeeded, it can never equal the handcrafted cases of the early centuries.

A desk clock has two important factors that determine its presence on any desk. It must be able to tell the time. It must be able to stand on its own base without any support. Today, desk clocks that combine the utility of penholders or phone books are also in great demand as gifts. Earlier offices had their walls adorned with a huge clock that told the employees what hour of the day it was. In the modern day office, which has labyrinths of cubicles, desks adorned with aesthetically designed desk clocks are common occurrences.

Desk clock shapes and types

Traditionally, desk clocks were designed as rectangular blocks of wood with a timepiece in the center. Modern homes and offices saw changes in design and trends of desk clocks. Different shapes such as circular, square, oval and even triangular clocks were manufactured and sold. Materials such as plastic and glass are being used to make desk clocks.

Desk clocks as gifts

Desk clocks make wonderful gifts especially at Christmas time. If you want to gift someone elderly in your family or social circle, desk clocks are a great idea. Designer desk clocks that cater to the young and modern homes and offices are also in great demand as gifts. You can also get designer desk clocks that match with the dcor of your home or office to give that organized look. This of course, comes with a hefty price tag attached to it.

Cheaper by the dozen

Corporate gifts can include desk clocks. Gifting occasions such as Christmas, New Year's or any other event such as anniversaries, birthdays or annual parties require most companies to gift their employees. Available at an affordable price range, desk clocks come in a wide variety of designs, shapes and colors. Bulk orders also mean heavy discounts.

Creativity begins at your desk

If you are a creative person who enjoys using trendy and designer stuff, a desk clock is a great way to begin creating your space. Beautiful and nice looking mantle pieces with sturdy and designer desk clocks are a great way to start the day. A desk or a study table at home or office is definitely incomplete without a desk clock to adorn it.

Breyer Molding created around 2000 different models of horses to adorn the clocks of Mastercrafters. The horses were made of plastics to porcelain pieces.

Famous Horse clocks

1. Breyer Molding supplied horse molds to Master crafter until the clock company could no longer pay them. One of their first models was of the serial number Breyer #57. This clock has a western horse saddled standing near the mantle clock and its their first original piece.

2. Breyer #571 was the anniversary American Saddlebred clock that was manufactured to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Brayer. In the early 1950's to early 70's the horses moulded by Breyer had a glossy finish. Though they were plastic they had the appearance of china porcelain.

3. Victor horse clock is the mastercrafters improved version of electric clocks with self-starting motors. This was western horse was made of plastic and hand painted and the horse was designed by Harland company.

Some of the models of the horses that Breyer's supplied Mastercrafters were glossy Appaloosa Mustang, dark version known as charcoal mustang, Gold Charm Mustang and Misty of Chincoteague and a model called stormy which has three foals of Misty of Chincoteague. Once the deal with Mastercrafters was completed both Hartland and Breyer entered the market to make horses for kids and adults who loved to collect horses. The charm of horse clocks still continues. They are considered as antiques. But today you have contemporary clock companies coming up with new models of horse clocks to suit the contemporary homes.

An atomic wall clock is the most accurate timekeeping device available today. It measures time according to the movement of electrons in cesium atoms and the standard second is now defined by measurements on an atomic clock.

Features of an atomic wall clock

The features of an atomic wall clock are the same as those of an atomic clock as it uses an atomic resonance frequency standard as its counter. The finest atomic frequency wall clocks are based on advanced physics involving cold atoms and atomic fountains. National standards agencies sustain an accuracy of 10-9 seconds per day with a precision equal to the frequency of the radio transmitter pumping the maser. These special atomic wall clocks keep up a continuous and stable time scale- International Atomic Time (TAI). The UTC or Coordinated Universal Time is a scale for dissemination of civil time derived from TAI, but corresponding to the passing of day and night based on astronomical observations. The new age radio clocks are referenced to atomic clocks, providing high-quality atomic-derived time over a wide area, using inexpensive equipment. However, these radio clocks are not suitable for high-precision, scientific work.

How an atomic wall clock works to offer precise time keeping

Atomic wall clocks use microwave oscillators tuned by the energy transitions of elements such as cesium, rubidium or hydrogen to provide the official definition of time today. Ultra-accurate atomic wall clock can display current indoor temperatures too and be self-setters to the U.S Atomic Clock. This ensures that it displays hour, minute, second time accurately to one second per day as the built in sensors give extremely precise information. They can be wall hanging or free standing, as per the customer's requirement and most models of atomic wall clocks are powered by AA batteries, though some are known to be electric too. The user also has the option for setting the time and adjusting the time zone and even selecting from English, French or Spanish for the calendar days. The atomic wall clocks giving indoor temperature readings offer a choice for Fahrenheit or Celsius reading for the temperature display. The internal sensor in these atomic wall clocks checks its surroundings every 10 seconds or so, for the latest temperature information.

Chess clocks can be distinguished from regular clocks as these come equipped with two timers built into one unit – one for each player. The two clocks do not run simultaneously, but rather keep track of the player and his opponent's total used time. This distinctive feature in the chess clock keeps the chess game moving at the desired pace since both players have a predetermined number of minutes to complete their game.

Importance of a chess clock

At the heart of every organized chess competition is a reliable chess clock and such a clock is instrumental can help tightly run chess tournaments with hundreds of chess players as it runs like clockwork, round after round, concluding on time.

Functioning of a chess clock

There are two buttons on top the clock to start and stop the timers in an alternating fashion. Before the game starts, the time is stopped and the buttons set in neutral position. After the first player makes the initial move, he is required to press the button on his side of the clock and his opponent's time starts to run while the time on his clock is pause. When the opponent makes his move, he will press the button on his side, which stops his timer and starts that of the first player. This may seem a bit tiresome at first and make take a little getting used to, but using a chess clock is an integral part of every chess move so a serious player needs to become skilled at it.

Setting the chess clock

There are digital and analog chess clocks available today. Most chess players prefer the digital ones for versatility and variety of features. Analog chess clocks need to be wound using the two winders on the back face, taking care not to over do the winding bit. Analog clocks give a good 12 hours of operating time. There are even the rare battery powered analog chess clocks, which do not require winding.

Using a chess clock in tournament play

All chess tournaments depend on reliable chess clocks that keep the whole place ticking and organizers happy. Chess tournaments can be organized at different levels such as a Standard, Action Chess, Blitz Chess, Speed Chess or Game 30, depending on how fast a game is expected. Slow chess tournaments like the US Championships allow 1 hour to 2 1/2+ hours per player and can last beyond 7 hours! Many tournaments that pre-decide the pace allot 1 hour per player, 30 minutes for Action Chess), 15 minutes for Quick Chess, 5 minutes for Speed or Blitz Chess.

Grandfather clock- history

In the 16th century Italian scientist Galileo discovered that pendulums could be used to keep time. A Dutch scientist Christian Huygens put this pendulum principle of Galileo to use in the mid 17th century to make a prototype of a grandfather clock. Eventually the pendulums were made longer as the astronomers thought that the longer the pendulum the more accurate is the time. As the length of the pendulum became more than three feet, they were put in long wooden cases, which resembled coffins. So you have the upper part of the clock showing the time and the lower part had the pendulum oscillating. These clocks were addressed as long-case clocks, coffin clocks and floor clocks as they were kept on the floor.

In the late 19th century an American songwriter Henry Work was touring England. He happened to stay at a hotel called George in North Yorkshire. During his stay he noticed a long-case clock, in the lobby, that was not working. From his enquiry he came to know that two brothers named Jenkins managed the hotel. After the death of the elder brother the clock started slowing down and on the day the younger brother died at the age of ninety the clock stopped. The new manager left the clock with the hands showing the time of the last Jenkins death. To commemorate this story, Henry Work wrote a song titled "my grandfather's clock" which became an instant hit and from then on the coffin case clocks were called as grandfather clocks.

Designs & Trends

The traditional and antique grandfather clocks are mostly found in the old houses and are very much in demand today as they add a rustic and warm look to the contemporary houses. These clocks are made from wood of the walnut tree, oak, pine, and mahogany. They are available from basic shapes to very much intricately carved ones. These clocks are characterised by the pinnacle of rounded wood that is intricately carved with designs of either swans, flowers surrounding the clock and have roman numbers serigraphy. The upper and lower doors of the clock have floral designs in the front and glass panes that add beauty. The pendulum and the hour, minute and seconds hands are made of fine brass. The base is also carved with care given to even minimal details. The antique grandfather clocks are rare to find and most home which do have them like to treasure them instead of putting it out for sale.

Today, we have contemporary grandfather clocks of variety of sizes to choose from. You have to decide where to place them before you purchase them- whether in the living room, dining room or your library cum office room. You have also a wide array of styles to choose from like bookcase, curio or storage grandfather clocks. The price will depend on size, inlays, chimes, wood used, carvings and so on. The price ranges from $700 to $130000.

Long case clock is a type of clock. It is also called as grandfather clock or floor clock. Basically it's a freestanding pendulum clock and its pendulum is situated inside its own tower. As far as its height is concern, its normal height is around 1.8-2.4m (6-8 feet). The tower often features highly carved wood at the top, which surrounds the clock face. The English clockmaker Mr. William Clement enjoys the credit for the development of this type of clock. He did the same in 1670. Most of the long case clocks look attractive. These are also called as grandfather, grandmother, or granddaughter clocks. Although there is no specifically defined difference between these clocks but the general opinion seems to be that a clock over 1.8m (6 feet) is called a grandfather; over 1.5m (5 feet) is called grandmother and smaller than that is called as granddaughter clock.

Although there is no specifically defined difference between these clocks but the general opinion seems to be that a clock over 1.8m (6 feet) is called a grandfather; over 1.5m (5 feet) is called grandmother and smaller than that is called as granddaughter clock.

These types of clocks were made in two types. First was called as eight-day and the second was called as 30- hour clocks. The second one was cheaper than the first one. An eight-day clock was designed to be wound once a week, while the 30-hour clock had to be wound every day.

Story of long case clocks came to be known as "grandfather clocks"

In 19th century, there were two brothers named Jenkins. They worked as managers at the George Hotel in Piercebridge (Country Durham) in England. One of them died and according to the story told to Henry Clay Work in 1875, the clock (made by James Thompson) began to lose time. Many attempts to repair that were made but had no outcome. After the death (at the age of 90) of other brother, the clock stopped running altogether and no one repaired that in the memory of the brothers. Work did write a song about the tale of that clock. He gave the name "My Grandfather's Clock" to that story. The song got popularity and it is from that song that the current usage derives. These clocks are not just for figuring out the time but they are decorative pieces that do enhance the beauty of our houses.

A digital alarm clock basically combines two features. Used not just to awaken people from sleep, these digital clocks also can set up reminders for important tasks. Mechanical alarm clocks had a bell on top that would ring at the specific time but modern day digital clocks come with a variety of sounds. You could get one that has a buzzing sound to one that says 'Good Morning'.

Digital alarm clock designs

Digital alarm clocks are mostly encased in a frame made of steel, fiber, glass or plastic. Available in traditional rectangular shape, digital alarm clocks also combine aesthetics with scientific requirements. Also available in shapes such as square, oval and triangular shapes, most digital alarm clocks are extremely compact in features and size.

Digital alarm clock features

Digital alarm clocks do what they are designed for. They display the time in digital mode. They give out alarm calls and reminders. They have a wide variety of functions apart from those they were initially meant for. Some digital clocks have a 12 and 24-hour display, an LCD display for desk clocks, a calendar and even a thermometer, backlight for use at night and even radio signals for global use.

Digital alarm clocks as gifts

Digital alarm clocks are a great idea as corporate gifts and for gifting among family and friends on occasions like Christmas and New Year's. You can gift a digital alarm clock with a different alarm sound. Alarm sounds that include chirping of birds, a child's laughter, clapping of hands or even a voice that says 'Good Morning' or 'Good Evening' according to the time of the day are available at an affordable price in the market.

Digital alarm clock accessories

Most digital alarm clocks come with their own set of batteries that can be easily replaced once they are spent. While some clocks require just one AAA battery, some may require two AA batteries. Backlights are also easily replaceable although it makes better sense to replace the clock as new and trendy designs and digital alarm clock manufacturers update features almost every month.

Standard measurements

The standard grandmother clocks were made in the 1920s and 1930s. By general standards, its height varies from 5'4" to 5'9" .

Mantel Clocks are usually wooden clocks a bit on the larger side with a large face and hands that can be viewed from a distance. Mantle clocks are a luxury item that can give the fireplace a classy and look. A fireplace mantel is incomplete until it is decorated with a mantel clock. Mantel clocks are available in all shapes and sizes with both Key wound and Quartz movements.

Types of mantle clocks

There are many different types of antique mantle clocks, however, many have been converted to an electronic system or quartz, as it is commonly known. Any piece of furnishing that is over sixty years old is categorized as an antique. The real antique clock will be driven by a key wound mechanism. This mechanism needs to be wound once a week or maybe several times in the week depending on the mechanism. The clocks that need to be wound once every week are known as eight-day clocks. Most of these movements are made in Germany. Today, however, there are many manufacturers that are making look-alike antique mantle clocks. These clocks look like the real thing and even have mechanical movements like the old clockmakers used o make.

Windup clocks need to be oiled and services every few years and the movements of these clocks should be cleaned at least once in ten years. Most antique clocks have chiming features. The more popular clocks chime four notes on the quarter hour, eight notes on the half hour, twelve notes on the three quarter hour and then strike the hour.

Styles of Antique Mantle Clocks

Howard Miler, Hermle, and Seth Thomas mantle clocks make the most famous antique mantle clocks. Their famous designs include wooden mantel clocks and chiming mantel clocks. Perhaps the most famous of these clocks is the cuckoo clock. This has a cuckoo bird popping out of a small opening at the top and singing cuckoo every hour.

The value of antique clocks will definitely increase over time if the clock is properly maintained and serviced as digital or electronic mechanisms are taking over with fewer people servicing antique clocks. So if anyone has a mantle clock that is over sixty years old it is a genuine heirloom and needs special care because it will be a priceless possession one day if it is not one already.
