Building a work bench

A work bench is essential a table fitted with various holding devices, such as bench tops and vices, and made sufficiently strong and massive to be used for a variety of wood working operations. The modern workbench derives from a two separate pieces, a table for planning wood and a bench for supporting wood to be sawn. The designs have changed over the centuries and acquiring different accessories. The originally a bench may have been freestanding and movable, whereas a form referred to a bench fixed to wall. A work bench may be any size, but normally a rectangular shape.

Building plans and procedure for workbench

Before a building a workbench studying the plan carefully is a good idea. Sanding all the surfaces well can avoid getting any splinters when carrying a bench. It is also a good idea to pre drill holes before fastening screws. The hole guides the screws into the correct positions and prevents it from splitting the wood. Making holes a little smaller than the diameter of the screw to allow the thread to bite into wood. Always keeping safety glasses on hand. One should wear them every time when using electric tools.

The bench tops- cut and prepare the frame work of the workbench, predrilled holes where required and assemble the bench top frame.

The legs- cut and prepare the number of legs required. Assemble the legs using the screws. Make sure the pieces are aligned properly.

The back- cut the perforated panels to require size and fasten it onto the previously installed frame work. The space between the perforated panel and plywood at the back allows room for hooks to be inserted for hanging tools.

Final assembly- fix the hinges to bottom of the back frame using the screws than these hinges to the bench top. Fasten the hinges that will hold the legs in place. Attach the legs and once in place secure them firmly .

Tips

Customizing the own workbench minimizes the effective cost within no time. Use safety goggles and hearing protection if required. Painting and polishing can be done to enhance the looks of the workbench
